Excellent Internship Opportunity For Exercise Science Majors
HealthWorks Fitness Center in El Dorado, Arkansas has internship opportunities for students pursuing careers in exercise science, kinesiology, and related fields. HealthWorks (HWFC) is a 50,000 square foot tri-level fitness center and home to over 4,500 members. HealthWorks is located one block from beautiful historic downtown El Dorado.
Amenities include: Indoor aquatics center with therapy pool, Bod Pod for advanced body composition assessment, three group exercise studios, free weight and cardiovascular facilities, LifeFitness and Hammer Strength cardio and strength equipment, and much more.
Each intern will be involved in three to four week rotations each at HealthWorks Fitness Center, Medical Center of South Arkansas for cardiac rehab and acute care physical therapy, and South Arkansas Physical Therapy Clinic for out patient physical therapy. Rotations will be scheduled according to the length of the internship. Each intern will be required to give at least one Power Point presentation on a fitness topic to the community (church, hospital, community organizations, or HWFC conference room).
One day will be spent in training with Mike Dupuis, Executive Director, covering facility operations. This comprehensive internship will prepare the student for many aspects of the fitness industry, including Cardiac Rehabilitation, Pulmonary Rehabilitation in a fitness setting, Acute/Outpatient Physical Therapy, center operations, marketing and sales, disease management, programming, human resource management, budgeting, and customer service.
All internships will be individually designed and may vary in scope and length to meet the interns specific needs. Housing and a monthly stipend will be available for selected interns. Each intern will have use of the facility for the duration of their internship. The internships may last 12-15 weeks (depending on each interns university requirements) and are available year round. Each intern must be in their senior year having completed all course requirements for exercise testing and instrumentation, as well as strength and conditioning, and should carry at least a 3.5 grade point average.
Each intern or their university will be responsible for liability insurance. Current CPR and First Aid certification required. HWFC will provide certification on site if necessary.
